About the competition
The Sibiu International Marathon is an open-type running competition with a philanthropic character (each runner supports a cause from the community by running, and their supporters have the possibility of making a donation for that cause). A runner may choose to run for a single cause.
The races organised as part of the Marathon on 29 May are the following:
● Cross Run 5 km
● 10k
● Half Marathon – 21.09 km
● TeamRun 4×5.3 km
● Marathon - 42.195 km
● Teen Race (13-17 years) – 3.35 km
● Steps for the City - 3.35 km
The Kids' races will take place with a physical start from Piața Mare on Sunday, 30 May:
● 4-5 years - 400 m
● 6-7 years - 800 m
● 8-9 years - 1200 m
● 10 -12 years - 1600 m
The categories of the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, Cross Run, Teen Race and Steps for the City races are male and female. Relay teams may be mixed teams.
The route of the competition will run over the distances corresponding to each race, in the central area of the city of Sibiu, in the adjacent areas (Sub Arini Park and the ASTRA Museum of Folk Civilisation and Tradition) and in the villages neighbouring Sibiu (Rășinari and Poplaca), for the marathon race.
The route will be marked appropriately and will be secured by volunteers and representatives of the Sibiu County Police, the Sibiu Gendarmerie and the Sibiu Local Police.
All volunteers will be equipped with whistles, which they will use to secure the running route by alerting pedestrians who cross it.
Participants will be timed by means of chips attached to the back of the race bibs. So that the time can be recorded without problems, the race bibs must be worn on the front of the T-shirt or shorts.
In the relay races, timing will not be carried out individually for each team member, but only for the team as a whole – only the runner who finishes the relay will receive a timing chip.
It is forbidden to change or transfer the race bib to other persons, which will result in the disqualification of the participant.
The hydration/refreshment points will be set up at Km 3, Km 5, Km 10.5, km 16, km 21, km 25, km 27.5, km 31.5, km 34, km 36, km 38, km 41.5. They will be stocked with fruit, chocolate, pretzels and water, and for the marathon race, starting from the refreshment point at km 27.5, they will also have cola.
